3rd Monday Oakland Meeting: The Plight of LGBTQ Foster Kids
Oakland LGBTQ Community Center, Oakland , United States
Parents, families, friends, and LGBTQ+ individuals, join us us for our regular 3rd Monday PFLAG Oakland/East Bay chapter meeting at the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center!
This month, Family Builders by Adoption Executive Director Jill Jacobs will speak with us about the plight of LGBTQ foster youth and include an update on California's #AB2119, the challenges faced by transgender foster youth seeking gender affirming care which led to the introduction of the bill, and how people can express their support for the bill if they choose.
Jill will also share about the process of applying to foster/adopt. Family Builders by Adpotion (http://www.familybuilders.org/) welcomes "all kinds of qualified and loving parents: women and men, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, couples and singles, people from all ethnicities and backgrounds, including mono-lingual Spanish speakers, and older and younger people."
#PFLAG meetings are FREE. If you personally want to give to support for the well-being of the local #LGBTQ community, we welcome donations for the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center itself at our #Oakland meetings.
Monetary donations in any amount and FOOD donations both strengthen the Center, which offers food to LGBTQ youth and elders who have insecure access to food and shelter. Your gift of ready-to-eat food that is sealed, healthful, and does not require refrigeration - such as granola bars, canned fruit/soup/tuna/chicken - will help fill the pantry and nourish hungry folks in need.
Note that the Center's entrance is on Rand Avenue, and the Center is upstairs. It's accessible and has an elevator. We look forward to welcoming you!
